The table you eat at
A dining table should still seat the family after it is styled. Leave elbow room. Decorate the centre, not every place setting, on weeknights.
A washable runner down the centre, not a full cloth you cannot wash midweek. Length should hang about 15 cm past each end.
A runner frames the table without hiding a good top.

Buy the size you use: quarter plates and bowls if that is dinner. One extra setting. Stoneware or opal for daily, bone china for guests.
A 24-piece set you never use is not decor. The set you eat from is.

Low enough to see across. A tray, a bowl, or a small plant. Remove it when the table is full.
A tall centrepiece looks styled and blocks conversation.

Two serving bowls, one tray, one jug. Match the metal or the clay, not every colour in the room.
Serving from the cooking pot looks unfinished. One good bowl fixes it.

Wipeable, one per seat, stored in a drawer. Round mats for round tables, rectangular for a long table.
Mats protect the top and set a place without a full cloth.

A warm pendant or LED candles. Real flames only in a holder, away from the runner. 2700K over the table.
Food looks better in warm light. Cool ceiling panels make every dish look flat.
